A 110cc quad bike is a good middle point. Its a little larger than some of the “kid” quad bikes available, but not so powerful so that they’re dangerous. A 110cc quad bike will max out at 35mph – 45mph/55kph – 70kph depending on the… Read the rest

Many people that I know that love riding quad bikes, would also like to get their kids involved. The problem is, they’re not sure what size of quad bike to get. Get one too small and they’ll outgrow it too quickly. Get one to big and they might hurt themselves.

A 110cc quad bike is a good middle point. Its a little larger than some of the “kid” quad bikes available, but not so powerful so that they’re dangerous. A 110cc quad bike will max out at 35mph – 45mph/55kph – 70kph depending on the weight of the rider. An average 12 year old would top out around 40mph/65kph.

Is that too fast for a 12 year old? Maybe. You’ll have to use your judgment on that. I think a 110cc quad bike is a great beginner quad. It will also last them for the next several years. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend anything more powerful until they’re at least 16.

A mini-quad like this can also be a lot of fun for adults. Even at 100 kg, I can get up to 35mph on a 110cc quad. Mini quad races are great fun

Many parents may scoff at giving a pre-teen a 110cc quad bike. If something that powerful makes you uncomfortable, you can get 50cc quads. These usually max out around 30kph and many have settings that will reduce the power even further.

The problem with a 50cc quad is that most kids will quickly outgrow these. I would rather buy a more powerful quad that will last for years.

What About Road Legal Quads?

While you can make a 110cc quad bike road legal, why would you? Even with a road legal quad, you have to have a proper license to drive on the street. Save your money and buy a proper road legal quad bike once the driver is old enough to get a license.

110cc quads are tons of fun for all ages. If you have a child that is interested in riding ATVs, I would highly recommend obliging their interest. Quad bikes are a great way to teach responsibility and the spend time together as a family.

Before you buy, talk to some local dealers and get a feel for the quad that would work best for the area that you will be driving it in. Pick out a few then get online and read reviews of the quads. Try to find people that have owned the model for several years so that you can pick a quad bike that will last until your child outgrows it.

They may be similar to the way they are driven, but the stability and functionality offered by quad bikes are truly worth recognizing.

Quad bikes are four-wheel vehicles operated like a motorcycle. The rider straddles the seat and uses the handlebar for steering. The rider may shift weight around the bike for efficient maneuvering especially in risky terrain.

These work on low-pressure tires with a firm tread pattern and a tough, rugged suspension system. The vehicle can handle large bumps and sharp impacts therefore providing the rider with stability and control. Quad bikes’ engine sizes range from 49cc to 1000 cc.

Quad bikes are popular among outdoors-men because they have a variety of uses. The are generally classified into two types – those for sports and recreation, and those for utility and service. With their spacious storage compartment and ability to traverse difficult terrains, quad bikes are ideal for camping, hunting and fishing. Quads are also used as a form of recreation wherein quad bike races are help at motocross tracks.

Aside from the utility range and the sports range, quad bikes may also be classified into off road and road legal types. Basically, quad bikes are intended for off-road use, mainly on private land. But because of the people’s intensifying interest, quad bikes are now being allowed in some countries to be used on public roads.

However, since it will be considered as a motor vehicle, modifications are necessary in order for the quad bike to meet the motor vehicle standards required by law. Compliance with construction, insurance, tax, and license are some of the legalities that must be observed for road legal quad bikes.

Quad bikes may also be classified according to the user. In most cases, individuals under the age of 16 are not allowed to operate a four-wheeler. But since there are a variety of quad bikes available, some quads may be appropriate for children. The general rule would be for a 110cc quad and above to be driven those 16 or older, quads with 70cc to 110cc can be used by 12-16 year olds, while bikes under 70cc are considered children’s quads and are suitable for 6-year olds and above. There are also special miniature quad bikes created specifically for children’s use.
