Getting a road legal ATV can be quite difficult at times. You need to get it certified, get insurance for it and make the necessary adjustments to make it ready for the road. (Though if you’re buying a new quad bike some dealerships can help with this process.) Finding the right company that manufactures road legal ATV’s is just the first part in this difficult series of steps in getting your ATV. Some ATV quad manufacturers price their products differently, so you should also choose the manufacturer of ATV’s you want to buy from based on your budget. You will have to weigh the pros and cons of the various features offered by each manufacturer. How important is quality, features, reputation, performance, etc?

You should also choose a manufacturer based on the quality of the all terrain vehicles they make. You can look at reviews from past customers. Repair shops that work on road legal quads can usually offer some insight as to which brands tend to break down more.

Before buying a quad bike you first have to choose decide what brand of quad you want. That’s a pretty obvious statement. However, it is a very important decision that you will have to make. Here are a few tips to help you find the right brand of road legal ATV quad for you:

You should be aware that different manufacturers price their products differently. What I mean is that different manufacturers have different price ranges for their products. You should research in how much you would want to spend on your ATV. Keep in mind that a higher price doesn’t necessarily mean you are getting more and cheap quad bikes aren’t necessarily poor quality. (More of that in tip number 2…)

Aside from price you should also focus on quality. You should make sure that when you choose a product from a manufacturer you are getting everything you have paid for. Just because a certain product from a certain manufacturer is cheap, does not mean that it performs very well. The flip side of this is that just because the ATV is the most expensive doesn’t mean that it will perform the best. Take a look at automobiles. Many Toyota and a Lexus models are essentially the same car. The difference is that the Lexus is a more prestigious brand and a $20,000 price premium.

Another important thing to consider is the reputation of the manufacturer. If a certain road legal ATV manufacturer has a reputation for making good quality products then that is probably true. This also goes for bad reputation and the bad things the manufacturer does. Check forums or reviews of the manufacturer to see if they have a good reputation. If you are still unsure you can ask friends, or ask a local dealer about the manufacturers’ reputation. You can also look at recall information. If one particular brand has had a number of recalls, it may be an indication that the manufacturer likes to rush new models out the door without doing the proper quality control.

In conclusion, choosing a manufacturer to buy from is the most important decision you will have to make when buying a road legal ATV. Do not forget the three tips for choosing a manufacturer, their price range must be reasonable, even if a certain product is cheap does not mean it has very good quality, and the reputation is very important. The reputation of a company is probably the most important thing for you to consider in choosing a manufacturer. Go read consumer reports that have been written on various quad bike makers and talk to people in the industry that deal with these companies day in and day out.

Quad bikes are very fun vehicles to drive. Quad bikes are designed for off road transportation, although some people enjoy driving quad bikes on regular roads. Laws pertaining to the legality of quad bikes on regular roads change from place to place. To find out the laws on road legal quad bikes and how to make a quad bike road legal, you should check with your local DMV as laws can vary from place to place – though most will at least require a speedometer, mirrors and brake lights. Moreover, here are a few general tips to get you started:

1. Before making your quad road legal you will obviously need a driver’s licence. This is because people want experienced drivers, not beginners driving quad bikes on the road. Another reason for doing this is that licensed drivers are legally liable for any accidents they cause.

2. There are quad bikes that are built for off road use and ones that are not. You can either buy a quad bike that is designed for road purposes or you can make your quad bike road legal. To make your quad bike road legal, all you will have to do is add a speed regulator, some mirrors and brake lights. Remember, a quad bike on the road without the necessary features will obviously be pulled over.

3. Some places require you to take and pass a specialized course in driving ATV’s on normal roads. These courses usually include the riding maneuvers you can do with the quad bike and, how to be safe when riding. These courses also teach you how to give the quad bike a regular safety check. All the information you need should be located at your local DMV.

4. When driving a quad bike on a regular road, you are not allowed to have any passengers on board with you while you drive your quad bike. Quad bikes tend to be very unstable and can very easily tip over. Even when turning a corner at a moderately high speed, you can tip over. Check local authorities first, because some areas let you drive your quad bike with a passenger with you.

5. Acquire all the legal documents that you might need, this includes road legal quad bike insurance. It is much easier to drive you quad bike knowing that your quad bike is insured.

6. Don’t forget to always use a helmet when you are driving.

Japanese quad bikes have become incredibly popular over the last several years. Japan has been a leader in technology for over ten years. They have produced multiple gadgets and tools that we may now take for granted. They are also one of the leaders in the automotive industry. Their car manufacturers are some of the best in the world and produce very high revenue compared to other car manufacturing companies. That is why it is no surprise that Japan would also have high quality quad bikes that can compete with the western made quad bikes. Indeed, the Japanese quad bike manufacturers from the east are slowly taking over the market.

Even if you are not looking for a Japanese made quad bike, you will see a few parts in other quad bikes that are made in Japan. The Japanese are known for making great engines, especially for quad bikes. Take the Polaris Outlaw 450 MXR quad bike for instance, this quad bike uses a powerful Japanese engine, actually most Polaris quad bikes also use the Japanese made engines. Quadzilla quad bikes also use Japanese engines.

In the quad bike world the Japanese quad bike manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki, are constantly reinventing their products, making them a lot more desirable.

Another good reason why some quad bike lovers flock toward Japanese quad bikes is because, in some or even most places, Japanese made quad bikes are a lot less expensive compared to the western made quad bikes. Japan really does make some good cheap quad bikes. Here are some of the famous Japanese quad manufacturers:

Yamaha: Yamaha is a world famous motorcycle manufacturer that also makes quad bikes. In terms of quad bikes Yamaha has models that can cater to any need. The Yamaha YFM50 or the YFM80 are children’s quads or for people who are just starting out for the first time. Another good Yamaha quad bike is the Wolverine. Yamaha sells the Wolverine in a 350cc, and a 450cc version.

Suzuki: The Suzuki car and quad bike manufacturer has been a great competitor in the world of quad bikes for over two decades. Their quad bikes are known to cater to the young, and the young at heart. Since they cater to that market, most of their customers are not experienced drivers, which is why the safety features in many of the quad bikes Suzuki makes are truly amazing.

For more information on Japanese quad bikes check around online, visit your local quad bike dealer or anywhere else that has road legal quad bikes for sale.

Quad bikes are becoming more and more popular these days, especially with the younger generation of male teenagers. These four wheeled, semi motorcycles are incredibly powerful for their size. They can also be quite expensive which makes quad bike insurance something to consider. Although quad bikes where designed for people that like to use an unconventional means of transportation, a lot of people tend to use quad bikes on paved roads and streets.

Since some quad bikes are allowed to be driven on the road, road legal quad bike insurance is something to consider?

Most quad bikes are carefully and meticulously designed to be driven on rough terrain or on someone’s private property, so you will need to make adjustments on your quad bike before it is ready for the road. When I mean adjustments I’m talking about putting, headlights, mirrors, a plate number, a speedometer and much more.

The state also requires the same legal documentation of your quad bike, just like all the other kinds of vehicles. Even after all these things, getting insurance for your quad bike can very difficult from a conventional insurance company. Most insurance companies do not offer insurance for quad bikes, because of the reputation quad bikes have for being dangerous destructive. BikeSure is a company that specializes in road legal quad insurance; you can go to this company if no other insurance company will insure your quad bike.

When getting insurance for your quad bike, do not buy the cheapest insurance you can get. Buying cheap insurance for your quad bike means saving a lot of money, but there is a good chance that by buying cheap insurance, the insurance you are going to get won’t be so good. The cost of your insurance for your quad bike is based on your performance with your quad bike, so the safer you drive your quad bike, the cheaper your insurance will become. A clean record with no accidents and no tickets will help a lot.

Another helpful tip is to compare insurance policies. Sometimes we may not get the kind of quad insurance we want from a certain company, and then we start barraging with them about the price, service and etc. For all we know, while we are doing this there is a better insurance company right around the corner. Check your options before choosing what kind of insurance you are going to get for your quad bike.

It would be an unfair statement to claim one specific model as the best Road Legal Quad for serious riders. All major manufacturers develop bikes that try to meet customer demands and compete for the top spot in the market. These companies continuously develop and manufacture versions in the hope of claiming that they have the best road legal quad bike.

Based on various feedback from users, listed below are a couple of Road Legal Quad bikes that appear to be the favorites of advanced users.

Quadzilla

The Quadzilla was the first to sell road legal quads in the UK. They have developed a reputation of producing quality products with excellent value for money among serious riders. The bikes that they develop seem to be among the forefront of product development that accurately responds to market demands. All of their road legal quads are complaint with European legislation requirements and can be used as long as the rider carries an appropriate driver’s license and his vehicle properly insured.

One of the newest Road Legal quad models from Quadzilla is the XLC 500E. It is equipped with Japanese 499cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine. This engine provides both speed and performance for all types of road driving. The transmission comes in both automatic and manual. The manual transmission is built with 5 gears including reverse. The chassis is built wide and long for a lower weight of gravity thus increasing stability. The XLC 500E is equipped with triple discs brakes for excellent braking performance. The bike provides both speed and torque giving it that extra flexibility. Many consider this Quad the fastest in the United Kingdom.

Apache

Apache has really been successful in penetrating the European market with their Quad bikes. The brand has certainly achieved recall in the UK. They have provided quads for all genres – road Legal and off road bikes for children, adults, beginners and serious riders. Many of their road legal bikes are designed for both on and off road use. Again, this provides flexibility to the user and helps avoid spending for accessories and added work to get on- road vehicle registration.

Apache is proud of one of its latest road legal models, the RLX 450 CF Supermoto. They believe that this model could easily be one of the fastest 450cc road legal bikes in the UK. Apache equipped this with a single cylinder four stroke engine incorporating new Japanese engine technology making this the most advanced in its inventory of road legal bikes. It also has a highly advanced chassis. The feedback from owners and those who have tested the bike have given very positive feedback for this road legal quad.

With the increasing popularity of quad bikes and the rising interest of children in “big toys,” it is not surprising that your kid will ask for his very own quad bike. And since parents want their kids to be happy, you will be pressured to buy one for your child. But since parents also want the best for their children, it is but natural that you intend to find the best quad bike for your youngster. Now that you have decided to get your little boy or girl their own ATV, consider these tips in purchasing a mini quad bike for your kid.

Since there are different types of quad bikes are available for different age groups, a 50cc quad bike is your best option for a 6-12 year old child. Where a 110cc quad bike would be more appropriate for a 13-16 year old. These bikes are made to look like the full sized adult quad bike but the features remain to be typically child-friendly. Its features usually include a 7:1 compression ratio, 3-speed and auto clutch transmission, electric start for easy starting, air cooling, 3.4L oil tank, rear disc brake, and a 50cc single cylinder, 4-stroke engine.

Such bikes are purposefully designed for first time riders. Although it is typically for 6-12 years old children, younger kids age 3-5 and youngsters age 13-15 can also ride this bike. The sturdy frame and full suspension allows rider to soak up bumps with ease. There is also an emergency cut off switch for extra safety. Likewise, the parental remote control feature allows parents or guardians to switch the quad off even at a distance of 100 meters. Look for this feature to guide your child to safety at all times, especially if your child is extra adventurous and curious.

You may also want to find a 50cc ATV bike that is designed in a way that you can upgrade it in the future. You child can still use the bike as he grows since you only need to do some modifications to suit his requirements. Riders agree that the 50cc quads are the quieter bikes compared to the other quad bikes in the market so this would perhaps be a really good buy.

Check different models of 50cc mini quad bikes before finally making that purchase. Compare brands and see which model and from which manufacturer has the highest reselling value. Although you can still make a good investment on your 50cc quad bike, there is still a chance that your grown-up child will request for a brand new full-sized adult ATV and not just settle for a modified mini quad. And lastly, ensure that you only deal with authorized and trusted dealers to guarantee quality and ensure the safety of your beginner driver

Many people that I know that love riding quad bikes, would also like to get their kids involved. The problem is, they’re not sure what size of quad bike to get. Get one too small and they’ll outgrow it too quickly. Get one to big and they might hurt themselves.

A 110cc quad bike is a good middle point. Its a little larger than some of the “kid” quad bikes available, but not so powerful so that they’re dangerous. A 110cc quad bike will max out at 35mph – 45mph/55kph – 70kph depending on the weight of the rider. An average 12 year old would top out around 40mph/65kph.

Is that too fast for a 12 year old? Maybe. You’ll have to use your judgment on that. I think a 110cc quad bike is a great beginner quad. It will also last them for the next several years. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend anything more powerful until they’re at least 16.

A mini-quad like this can also be a lot of fun for adults. Even at 100 kg, I can get up to 35mph on a 110cc quad. Mini quad races are great fun

Many parents may scoff at giving a pre-teen a 110cc quad bike. If something that powerful makes you uncomfortable, you can get 50cc quads. These usually max out around 30kph and many have settings that will reduce the power even further.

The problem with a 50cc quad is that most kids will quickly outgrow these. I would rather buy a more powerful quad that will last for years.

What About Road Legal Quads?

While you can make a 110cc quad bike road legal, why would you? Even with a road legal quad, you have to have a proper license to drive on the street. Save your money and buy a proper road legal quad bike once the driver is old enough to get a license.

110cc quads are tons of fun for all ages. If you have a child that is interested in riding ATVs, I would highly recommend obliging their interest. Quad bikes are a great way to teach responsibility and the spend time together as a family.

Before you buy, talk to some local dealers and get a feel for the quad that would work best for the area that you will be driving it in. Pick out a few then get online and read reviews of the quads. Try to find people that have owned the model for several years so that you can pick a quad bike that will last until your child outgrows it.

Quad bike riding will only be enjoyed if safety is guaranteed. Therefore, it is crucial that one understands the difference between off road quads and road legal quads. Here are some facts and information to help you identify the use and purpose of each quad bike.

Off Road Quads

Generally, quad bikes are meant for off-road use. They were first utilized as farm utility vehicles for agriculture and are also used in transporting goods. These were designed specifically for traversing rough terrains. These ATV quads are also ideal for fun weekend adventures like camping. Countryside trips will be more enjoyable with a quad bike as this vehicle can go to areas where conventional vehicles cannot go. Those living in remote settings can greatly benefit from owning an off road quad bike.

Off road quads are now also being used for recreation as there are venues that offer off-road quad bike activities. But owning a road legal quad bike gives double benefits as you can use it for off-road purposes as well as public highway driving. You can now ride to a trail, compete for a race, drive to work, and even go shopping using just one vehicle type.

The Road Legal Quad Bike

On-road or road legal quad bikes are registered quads that are properly homologated for public road use. In UK, a road legal quad must be constructed in compliance with the country’s Road Traffic Act of 1988. It must be built according to the standards required by law before it can be legally driven on public highways. It should have a valid certificate, insurance, and tax documentation and must also have a registered number plate.

A road legal quad bike must have lights, indicators, mirrors, warning horn, speedometer, and road legal tires. Other specifications may be required depending on the state or country’s road management rules. On-road quads are to be driven by riders 17 years old and above with full driving license.

Then again, be aware that road legal tires usually do not provide enough traction necessary for true off-road driving. You may want to change tires when using your road legal quad bike for off-road activities. Moreover, do not forget that proper caution is required for quad driving. While special or formal training is not required, some training may be helpful so you can fully experience the best out of your vehicle.

And whether you go for on-road or off-road quad biking, ensure that you have the necessary gear. A helmet is essential while boots, gloves, and goggles are optional safety gear.
